Day 301 – Born For Greatness

Born For Greatness

Have you ever heard the saying: “He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth”? In other words, some people are born into families of means and that their lives are made easy through privilege and comfort. One does not choose the family into which one is born and some sure have it better than others. The playing field is not level regarding the conditions of our birth, yet opportunities for greatness await us all. The purpose of Jesus coming to earth was to restore kings to the Kingdom; to take mankind out of slavery and to transform them into His heirs. Adam and Eve had been given the responsibility to govern God’s creation, (Gen.1.28), but lost it when they sinned. As Adam’s race, we all have inherited his nature; thus, all have sinned. (Romans 3.23) Jesus’ death and resurrection redeemed us from Satan’s dominion and provided an opportunity to be saved. By placing our faith in Jesus, we become God’s children, thus, destined for greatness. You are no longer of human descent. You are born of the King of kings.

Jesus was born King. The magi traveled from their kingdoms in the East to find and worship the “King of the Jews”. (Mat. 2.2) They did not seek a prophet, but a king. The angels announced Jesus as king as did the prophets of old. With the coming of a king, His kingdom is established. Here are some characteristics of a king: 1) He inherits his kingdom through birth, 2) He is trained by tutors how to behave as a king, 3) The glory of the king expresses his nature, 3) Power and authority of the king is absolute, 4) His Word is law, 5) The king’s reputation is determined by the condition of his kingdom, and 6) The king embodies the government of his kingdom. Jesus’ mission was to bring the Kingdom of Heaven to earth and to restore each of us as kings in His Kingdom.

For us to be given the kingdom, we must be born again. This new birth qualifies us to be heirs of Father and co-heirs with Jesus. All who have received Jesus, by believing in His name, have the right to become the children of God. (John 1.12) No one can make Jesus Lord or King, He is Lord and King. You must just accept Him as such. He was born King and your new birth makes you to be king as well. By being born again, your past parentage has been nullified. You have a new set of genes. You have a new nature. Through your training, (discipleship), you learn how to think and act as a king. The Holy Spirit is given to each of us to train and guide us in the ways of the Kingdom.

So many people strive for greatness by buying expensive clothes, cars and houses. But it isn’t these things that makes one important. A king doesn’t need to live in a castle to be king. Wherever he lives is his castle and wherever he is, is his kingdom. He makes valuable the things he has, not the other way around. Even our bodies are deemed holy, because of the presence of the Holy Spirit. Because we are His children, His reputation is determined by His care of us. He will not abandon us, leaving us to beg on the streets, nor be overcome by the enemy. We are of much more importance to Him than the birds of the sky or the flowers of the field. (Mat. 6.25-33) He has placed His name on us. Wherever His name is, He is there. We belong to Jesus. We are born for greatness.
