Glorify God In Your Body
Your body is your earthly home. You are spirit; you have a soul and you live in a body. When you are born again the Holy Spirit comes to dwell in you. There is a joining of your spirit with the Holy Spirit in your body, thus, as the Scriptures says, “Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit”, (I Cor. 6.19). Your body was created and formed by God. He has given you this physical home so that you can glorify God with it.
In the First Century, there was a heresy being propagated by some called Gnostics, which taught that the body was evil and the spirit good. This dualism separated one’s spiritual life from what he did with his body. They claimed that Jesus was only spirit, being good, and had no physical body. In this way these Gnostics were able to justify sinning with their body and still being righteous before God in their spirit. The Early Church condemned such teaching for salvation is all inclusive, for the spirit, soul and body. Even though our bodies will one day die, when Jesus returns there will be a resurrection and glorification of our bodies.
What we do with our bodies is of utmost importance. Instead of yielding the members of one’s body to sin we are to present our body as a living sacrifice to the Lord. Each day thank God for the body that you have. Honor Him with the way you take care of it and what you do with it. Let the inner presence of the Lord shine through your actions and attitudes. Take this confession of Derek Prince and speak this over yourself each day:
CONFESSION for Overcomers
By Derek Prince
My body is a temple for the Holy Spirit, redeemed, cleansed and sanctified by the Blood of Jesus. My members, the parts of my body, are instruments of righteousness, yielded to God for His service and for His glory. The devil has no place in me, no power over me, no unsettled claims against me. All has been settled by the Blood of Jesus. I overcome Satan by the Blood of the Lamb and by the word of my testimony, and I love not my life unto the death. My body is for the Lord and the Lord is for my body. Amen
Scriptures to meditate on:
I Corinthians 6:9-20; Romans 6:13; 12:1-2; Ephesians 1:7; Revelations 12:11; I Thessalonians. 5:23
Thanks Jim
I prayed this every night with my son when he was a young boy. When we came to see the specialist he said” well I think there was some kind of mistake, no tumour to be see”.
Now we stand over a new battle, same son,now 20 years later and I am reminded how we prayed this and will do so again.
Love to you and Helen
