Day 59 – The Power Of Agreement

The Power Of Agreement

The most powerful number in the Bible is 1. God is One, yet Three, (the Trinity). Unity assumes that there is more than one person and that they are in agreement. Oneness is unity and this is where the Lord commands a blessing, (Psalms 133). Although His creation is quite diverse, He desires that we become one as well. Through our faith in the Lord Jesus, we become one Spirit with Him, (I Cor. 6:17). The blessing of covenant in marriage joins two individuals to become one. Jesus prayed that His disciples, (12), would become one as He is One with the Father, (John 17:21).

Sin is when we do what is right in our own eyes. It is individualism and it separates us from God and from one another. When we confess our sins, His forgiveness restores us to a right relationship with Him. Confession is saying the same thing as God says. It is coming into agreement with God about our sin, who Jesus is and His redemptive plan. When we pray in agreement with someone else, there is a tremendous promise of answered prayer. Jesus said, “if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven,” (Mat. 18:19).

Because agreement is so powerful, the Bible also warns us of what and with whom we come into agreement. The prophet Amos said that two people cannot walk together unless they are in agreement, (Amos 3:3). So who are you walking with? Who are you friends? In the Proverbs it says: “whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm,” (Prov. 13:20). Paul warns of not being “unequally yoked with unbelievers,” (II Cor. 6:14). This means being joined with someone with whom you do not agree. Whether we like to believe it or not, being around the wrong people does corrupt us. We may find some satisfaction and stimulus to our soul, but we have denied ourselves of the power available to us in agreement.

As with Eve, temptation comes when we begin to listen to the counsel of the enemy. Just listening was enough to turn Eve from the Word of God and to begin her agreeing with Satan’s ideas. This took her to where she never thought she would go. In Psalms 1 we see this digression: walk, stand, sit, (Ps. 1:1). It stops our growth in the Lord and keeps us from progressing in life. Faith, on the other hand, comes by hearing the Word of God and coming into agreement with Him, (Rom. 10:17). It takes us from a position of being seated with Christ in Heavenly places to standing firm in our faith to walking in the Spirit. Agreement with the Will of God is powerful.
