Day 255 – Thanksgiving For The Blessings

Thanksgiving For The Blessings

It is funny how songs of childhood come back to you from time to time. One such song is that of Johnson Oatman, entitled: Count Your Blessings. The refrain goes like this:

Count your blessings, name them one by one,
Count your blessings, see what God hath done!
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.

As we begin to think about the many ways God has blessed us, thanksgiving springs up in our hearts. Can you count them all? Maybe we should all start; one by one.

Begin with, “thank you Father for….”  I’ll help you begin.

Thank you Father for the love you have lavished on us who believe and for Your acceptance of us as Your children. Thank you Father for the gospel of the grace of God in truth that has come to us and changed our lives. Thank you Father that the eyes of our understanding have been enlightened by the spirit of wisdom and revelation and that we many know what is the riches of your glorious inheritance in the saints. Thank you Father for the grace to become all you intended us to become. Thank you Father for delivering us out of the dominion of darkness and have transferred us to the kingdom of your beloved Son. Thank you Father for raising Christ from the dead and seating Him at Your right hand, far above all rule and authority and power. Thank you Father for the forgiveness of sins and the presence of the Holy Spirit.

So many blessings to recount. So many graces that have be given to us. Count them all. Ted Sandquist wrote a song I would like to share with you here.
