Day 89 – Fresh Oil

Fresh Oil

In the 92nd Psalms, the writer is caught up in his exalting of the Lord, because of the great works that God has done. As he reflects on his life he is amazed with the goodness of the Lord. All the glory goes to the Lord as he meditates on His faithfulness. Beginning with verse 10, the writer points out that it is the “fresh oil” given by the Lord, that has made the difference in his life. This oil is the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

Just as there are seven purposes for the anointing listed in Isaiah 61 and seven attributes of the Spirit of God in Isaiah 11, here, in Psalms 92 we have seven benefits of the anointing of the Holy Spirit. Just as the oil on the head, in Psalms 23, causes one’s cup to overflow, so the anointing breaks the yoke and releases the blessings of God in our life.

The first benefit is VISION. The enemy blinds the eyes of our understanding, but the Lord opens our eyes to comprehend his ways. Before you can have victory, you must see the victory.

We are able to HEAR the voice of the Lord. So much around us tries to deafen us to the Word of God, but the Lord opens our ears to hear His truth. As we hear the Word, our faith is activated and the enemy defeated.

The anointing causes us to FLOURISH as a palm tree. Palms grow in the desert, which speaks of blessings and fruitfulness even in times of trials.

We also GROW as the cedars of Lebanon. Cedars grow straight, which is integrity, and they are known for their longevity. Many years of righteous living, Hallelujah!

The anointing causes us to be PLANTED in the house of the Lord. In His presence is fullness of joy. There is no wandering from place to place, looking for the blessing. The blessing is poured out over those who have been established in His house.

Even in old age there is FRUITFULNESS. With the anointing, one never stops dreaming and being active. It is the abundant life, promised to those who know the Lord.

No one who has the anointing can keep it to himself. He must DECLARE to the world the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and no one go to the Father except through Him.

We have been given FRESH OIL. The anointing is fresh every day. It never gets old.
