Day 311 – Just One Drop

Just One Drop

I love reading about the Prophet Elisha. What a mighty man of God! One story that encourages me, when I am going through a seemingly impossible situation, is found in II Kings, chapter 6. Elisha was in the town of Dothan when the king of Aram and his armies surrounded the city by night, seeking to kill the man of God. Elisha’s servant rose early in the morning and when he saw the impending peril cried out to Elisha: “Alas, my master, what shall we do?” Elisha calmly responds: “Do not fear for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” Elisha saw something that his servant could not see. He then prayed that his servant’s eyes would be opened, and when they were, he was able to see the mountains full of horses and chariots of fire all around them. The armies of the king of Aram were just a drop in a bucket as compared to the hosts of heaven.

When comparing one drop of water to an ocean, it is saying that that one drop of water is so insignificant as compared to the vastness of the ocean. Isaiah writes that the nations are as a drop in the bucket to the Lord. (Is. 40:15) Just a speck of dust. Though the nations roar, and their rulers make plans against the Lord, He just sits in the heavens and laughs. (Psalms 2:1-4) When the enemy comes against us, like a flood, all the Lord must do is lift up His banner against them. (Is. 59:19) There is no one like our God. No one, no situation or circumstance is like Him. Nothing can challenge His might; no sickness, no disaster and no argument can stand against Him. When you feel that life’s problems are too much for you, just remember that God has not changed. Nothing is impossible for Him.

Fear gains its power and control over us when we see things with our natural eyes. Elisha’s servant’s fear was based on what was real in the natural world. But when his spiritual eyes were opened then he had faith. Paul prayed that the Ephesian church’s eyes of their understanding would be opened so that they could see the greatness of God’s power toward them. (Eph. 1:17-19) Sure, the natural does exits, but greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world. (I John 4:4) My wife reminds me often that the enemy may roar like a lion, but he has no teeth or claws. Our battle is against a defeated foe. The victory has been won.

The worship group, Soulfire Revolution, produced a song that has blessed me a lot. It is: Just One Drop. The lyrics of the refrain are: “Just one drop of your blood took away sin and gave sight. Just one drop of your blood brought me healing, brought me life.” This song creates an image in my mind of all the world’s problems and the enemy’s plans and accusations as being like just a drop water and then just one drop of the blood of Jesus was enough to reverse the curse and to set us free from the law of sin and death. Even though the blood of Jesus was poured out seven times and was much more than one drop was spilled, just one drop was enough.

We must keep our natural life in the perspective of the spiritual. Just because we can’t see something, doesn’t mean it isn’t real. You cannot see electricity flowing through an electric fence, but you had better not touch it. If you do, you will sure find out that it is real. Believe the sign! So, it is with God. If He said it, it is true. When He says you are healed, you are. When He says you are more than a conqueror, you are. When He ways He is with you, He is. Everything else is just a drop in a bucket.
